Anusara-Inspired™
The Muse is proud to offer Anusara-Inspired™ classes by 3 of the 4 Anusara-Inspired™ yoga teachers in Boise. Anusara Yoga® is a system of yoga founded by John Friend. Each class can be quite different, but students should expect the following common elements: a heart-based theme, the use of Universal Principles of Alignment™ to provide optimal alignment and potential in each pose, movements and actions coordinated with the breath, and an encouraging and supportive atmosphere for their practice. Level 1 classes focus on basic, foundational poses including standing and seated poses, arm balances, backbends and inversions. Click here for a list of Level 1 poses. Level 2 classes focus on using the basic poses as the foundation for more advanced postures. Students should expect to work hard and have fun! For more information on Anusara Yoga please click here.
Yoga Power Hour
Yoga Power Hour classes at Muse are offered by a variety of teachers, with classes in the morning, at noontime, and in the evening. They are intended to get the body moving and work the major muscle groups to provide for optimal blood flow, full breath, and to get your heart rate up! Expect to move…a lot! You will typically be guided through Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) variations, standing poses, arm balances and/or heart openers (backbends), although each class is its own unique experience. These classes are a perfect addition to your workday, and will help you stay refreshed and focused. Some yoga experience helpful.
Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa flow classes coordinate movement with breath for a continuous flowing experience. Expect Surya Namaskar (sun salutations), standing pose flows, and heart opening backbends. The Muse is proud to offer beginner’s vinyasa for an introduction to this flowing style, as well as more advanced classes.
Sivananda Hatha Yoga
Taught in the Sivananda tradition, a classical Sivananda hatha yoga class consists of warming up with several rounds of Surya Namaskar, sun salutations, before beginning the series of 12 basic asanas: 1) Headstand (Sirshasana), 2) Shoulderstand (Sarvangasana), 3) Plough (Halasana), 4) Fish (Matsyasana), 5) Sitting Forward Bend (Paschimothanasana), 6) Cobra (Bhujangasana), 7) Locust (Shalabhasana), 8 Bow (Dhanurasana), 9) Half Spinal Twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana), 10) Crow (Kakasana) or Peacock (Mayurasana), 11) Standing Forward Bend (Pada Hasthasana), 12) Triangle (Trikonasana). The class ends with final relaxation lying on the mat in corpse pose (Shavasana). Kimberly teaches this basic structure with some exceptions and variations. See sivananda.org for more information.
Alignment, Awareness, and Relaxation
Alignment, Awareness and Relaxation classes are suitable for students of all levels, and are guided by Ali Sternke who is a seasoned Physical Therapist. Using careful attention to alignment and to the breath, students will explore basic poses and healing movements. Props are generously used to provide optimal support for all students, and there is a strong focus on bringing awareness into the physical experience. The last Tuesday of each month is a restorative class.
Beginner’s Yoga/Yoga Foundations
Beginner’s Yoga and Yoga Foundations classes are intended for students who are new to yoga, or experienced practitioners who wish to revisit the basics. Expect to learn the basic forms of the asanas (poses) with proper alignment. You may also get an introduction to yoga philosophy, and basic breathing techniques. These classes may also be suitable for students with certain injuries or physical limitations. Please contact us first if you have questions about whether a class is appropriate for you, and always let the instructor know if you have injuries or concerns.
i-Rest
Integrative Restoration (iRest) is a transformative practice derived from the ancient teachings of meditation that leads to psychological, physical, and spiritual healing. iRest® teaches skills that you can use throughout your life, that assist you in experiencing a sense of mastery when encountering difficult situations and a sense of ease that pervades your everyday life. The purpose of iRest is to help you live a contented life free of conflict, anxiety, fear and dissatisfaction. Expect a sweet, restful experience, not a lot of movement.
Pranayama
Pranayama is one of the eight limbs of yoga and is often translated at “breath control.” Pranayama classes focus on breath-work, including traditional techniques for observing, controlling, and channeling the energy of the breath, the life force, for optimal balance of the nervous system. Expect to sit or lie back for most of the class, but also expect dedicated and focused work on the inner energetic experience.
Meditation
The Muse offers several meditation classes per week, including both guided meditation with Jessica Hixon, and open meditation practice with Brandie Redinger. Meditation classes are typically a seated practice, and the intention is to focus the mind or to witness the thoughts of the mind with loving awareness. Over time this may lead to more focus and more compassion in your work, your inner experience and in your relationships.
